Our packages include flights from Papeete to Mangareva, the boat trip from Mangareva to Pitcairn Island, all Pitcairn Island fees and charges, food and accommodation, and one night’s accommodation back in Mangareva when necessary. It is the goal of Pitcairn Travel to provide a safe, regular, value for money service to the Pitcairn Islands to promote tourism and to facilitate travel for locals. “Most people living on Pitcairn have relatives off island and it is both expensive to visit family and difficult due to our remote location and infrequent service. Currently the only way to visit Pitcairn is via our supply ship Claymore II which calls quarterly. Work constraints and annual leave allocations do not always fit this schedule. As demand increases, we hope to run trips in between these quarterly trips to give customers more flexible travel options” says Ms Christian.
We are very pleased to have arranged a charter service with Skipper and Expedition Leader, Stephen Wilkins, of sailing vessel Xplore. Stephen has done the Pitcairn to Mangareva trip before and is quite familiar with the sea conditions in this region. He is looking forward to renewing and developing a longstanding relationship with the Pitcairn community.
Xplore is a sailing vessel specifically designed and built for the extreme conditions of the Southern Ocean, as proven in Antarctica, and two circumnavigations. A fast, heavy-weather sailing yacht, Xplore has strong motoring capabilities for when time and conditions demand.
Xplore is constructed of steel, high-strength low-alloy (HSLA) and at 20.42 meters (67-ft.), with a 12-person capacity (including crew) Xplore has a comfortable layout which provides space and privacy within the 6 cabin layout. She will carry a maximum of 8 passengers per voyage for comfortable sailing.
We also offer trips from Pitcairn to Henderson Island, the World Heritage Island recently declared rat free. Henderson is 110 nautical miles from Pitcairn and has 6 endemic birds and 4 endemic marine species. It contains an interesting range of flora and fauna. Combined with a visit to Pitcairn, Henderson and Pitcairn offer visitors a truly unique experience of beauty, history, culture and fauna and flora.
Pitcairn Travel can also arrange your booking via the supply ship Claymore II. We hope to provide you with the most suitable travel options to ensure that have a smooth and pleasant trip that fits in with your schedule.
A typical trip to Pitcairn is 15 days from Papeete to Papeete return giving you up to 10 days on island. Your boat journey of approximately 48 hours each way can vary with the weather conditions but we will deliver you safely to your destination.
On Pitcairn you can spend quality time with descendants of the Bounty Mutineers and enjoying a sub tropical climate with activities such as snorkelling, walking, hiking, fishing, making a craft, viewing unique flora and fauna or being pampered with massage and taking it easy. A visit to the Pitcairn museum will take you back in time, retracing Pitcairn’s ancient history from prehistoric stone-age settlements to the arrival of HMAV Bounty.
Hiking or quad bike tours are available to view our top spots and give you your bearings and you may even enjoy a day out on one of Pitcairn’s famous long boats. Be prepared for a surprise. Pitcairn is a special, beautiful place with hospitality second to none. Have a look at our “Things to Do” page.
